Americans always have room in their hearts for a silly novelty product. In music, it's annoying songs with even more annoying dance moves: I was horrified to discover 'Teach Me How to Dougie' was only the tip of the iceberg. In food, it's concoctions that could only be attributed to weed: Taco Bell now sells tacos made out of waffles, and a local pizza chain offers pizzas covered in corn chips. And in clothing, it's what they dub the 'Christmas sweater'.

I'm hardly too serious to turn down a good ironic item, but in my effort to eschew wastefulness, I generally find myself giving those things a miss. But this J. Crew jumper is the perfect in-between: it's a true woollen fair isle, but it can probably fit right in at an ironic Christmas party if need be.
